Asphalt test method
AASHTO T 111
Purpose: AASHTO T 111 measures the mineral matter or ash that remains after an asphalt material is burned.
How it works: The lab weighs the sample, removes the organic asphalt material by controlled heating, and weighs the remaining mineral residue.
Why it matters: The result helps identify inorganic material in an asphalt product and supports material quality checks.
Important detail: Controlled heating is needed to remove the asphalt without losing mineral residue. Crucible mass and final constant mass are important.
